coco

First video(and stills) with the 90.
Truly, dynamic lighting is god like. It's like shooting color neg film; blown highlights, muddy shadows? Who cares!
Shooting stills for a long time and having 24fps thrown at you is kind of disorienting.
Going to bed at 6 in the morning is pointless because the sun is going to rise ridiculously soon and I'd rather be outside, freezing, with a camera
when that ball of fire and gas comes barreling over the horizon. Besides, when's the last time I was up early enough to see the sunrise?

604,800 Secods Left

I've started my final project for digi which is to create portraits of characters from "A Christmas Carol. "
Abby helped me with Jacob Marley and I've got plans to do a whole lot more of them!
Plus, Abby and I are recording a Christmas Album.

D90 on it's way!

Vinnie eats bugs.

Little Boys Love Mud

Tired, very tired.
Spent most of the week recuperating from tuesday's big "photo project due day."

Got my fill of male bonding for the year when my brother and his friends decided to go "off roading", (a clever name for beating the hell out of a vehicle with extraordinary tires.) and I tagged along for some photos.
I and five other gentlemen, frozen in the mud in some god awful recreational park north of Flint. (Who knew there was anything besides the Mackinaw bridge north of Flint?)
Sixhundred pictures and a minor case of frostbite later I do believe I'm better for the experience.

What did I learn shooting this weekend?
1. Make your own light, high ISO's suck for everything.
2. f/2.8 is not as sharp as f/8
3. Sharpness is a silly illusion nikon tricks us all into believing.
4. RAW is for wimps, so is JPG; shoot slides.

holy-moly ten days left.

Tonight I shot "back to the river, back to the forest" at a quaint little venue named "the district."
Great fellas and great music, a real treat to work at too.
Got to play with my lights for shooting live music and I have no idea why everyone does not do it.
Two simple lights and some triggers placed in the right place (cross lighting is my personal favorite now) eliminates all that ISO noise worries. I don't have to wait for the light guy to flick the house on and off either.

I drew moons in Vinnie's eyes for my project.
Screw this Michigan cold trouble, I'm moving to Texas.

I think I'm done with RAW too.

Bokeh poem:

red light,

green light,

any light,

f/1.8 is just right.

ʞsɐɯ sɐƃ

Snow today. It's going to get very cold soon. I've got a digital assignement due Tuesday and I have no idea what I'm going to do. Got a gas mask for ten bucks at an army store with Vinnie. Pizza-less Dexter and some photos afterwards.

The Sound of Breaking Glass Has More Rhythm

Found a horse in the woods with Abby.
Later, Abby regaled Lily and I with fantastic Christmas carols as we wrapped Lily's face up. Terrible cheese sticks and some good photos made for a great night.

Fog

While loading my film someone decides to fling open the door and splash light across my poor film. While a very large section was ruined, denser film towards the center of the spool only suffered minimal fogging and on a few frames only fogged certain layers of the film; looks neat?
Thanks so much Abby for sticking around the lab with me and then going to the bar afterwords.

Halloween Masquerade Dance Party

The dance party was quite a success. It started out a bit languid; only two guest arrived timely at 8 p.m. There were solid forms of carbon dioxide(dry ice) and lots of fog to go around and about 10 o'clock a tidal wave of party goer's arrived. There were more people present that night than any other Hermann residence party.
There we're also several first for my parties....
  • I was given a CD and asked to spin it for the party. Someone thought enough to make a mix CD of horrible hip-pop and bring it to the party.
  • A complete loss of parking control. Even though Jorian was diligently policing a bottle of vodka, alcohol and lack of space eventually overwhelmed him and cars were lost and people forced to park their cars onto my lawn. Special thanks to Jorian for his valiant efforts.
  • African American Guests!
Thanks to everyone who came and brought friends.
Also a very Happy Birthday to Lily, we celebrated her birthday all evening as well.
See you all at the Christmas party.
Pictures can be seen here or here
Oh! Everyone should head to the DIA there is a lot of good new stuff up. Or they just moved everything around, either way it's bound to be a fantastic time.
